Composting in Kingston

Kingston is tied for the third as the top composting city in Canada with St. John with 83% of residents saying that they compost. Halifax – 93$ Guelph – 87%

Success is attributed to the green bin program which was implemented in 2009

However the green bin plan is voluntary so you do not need to compost, the city will pick up your garbage if it has organic waste in it. But you can only have one bag of garbage a week without purchasing a garbage tag

If you need a Green Bin you can get one at Kingston Area Recycling Centre at 196 Lappan's Lane, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m

Kingston accepts BPI-certified compostable liner bags in Green Bins
